My thoughts on Tilly and her new role. While I’m not in love with the choice, I do think there are some reasons why she is selected. First, with the loss of Tyler, Airiam, and Nhan I don’t think there’s a stand out obvious candidate for first officer. 1/5 #StarTrekDiscovery
It is only a temporary trial, and this is not a galaxy class ship with 1000 people. Discovery’s crew is now about 80-90 people so it’s much more manageable. Because of their unique situation they have bonded like family, and Tilly is a great people person. 2/5 #StarTrekDiscovery
Over the course of the show she has shown to be super intelligent, a quick thinker, she gives very good advice and makes ethical choices. She does lack confidence and assertiveness at times, but these are not difficult traits to quickly gain & improve upon. 3/5 #StarTrekDiscovery
She has done as much for the crew as anyone, and while it may yet prove to be a mistake or too much for her to handle, it could equally make her rise to the challenge and shine. She joined the command training program for this very type of role. 4/5 #StarTrekDiscovery
Ultimately if we can accept criminals getting positions of authority on Voyager, or Kira going from terrorist to first officer on DS9, or Kirk going from cadet to captain then we can accept a brilliant and very competent officer supported by her ship mates. 5/5 #StarTrekDiscovery
