A few years ago, I noticed my first flat was up for sale so, for old times' sake, I organised a viewing.
I found that not only was the £1.99 polystyrene centre rose from Homebase I'd put up in the living room in 1993 still there, it was advertised as 'an original period feature'.
Also - the Homebase dado rail I'd put up in the hall (glued and tacked over the wallpaper, because my DIY skills were terrible) was still in place, gappy, badly-mitred joints and all.
And here's a little detail I'd forgotten - when I turned up for the viewing, this was the doormat that greeted me:
