unfollow me for this opinion or whatever but i’m not apologising for it
this statement right here is something that i’ve noticed within their music. has their style changed? ofc. theyre always switching up their styles but they’re more sensitive to global appeal now and that’s okay. it’s how artists stay ahead. adapting.
BUT when u look at their solo music. it’s so very different to what they put out with bts. ofc they’re all different individual artists so it’s expected to be different but i think they experiment more on their individual stuff.
the pop music bts make is often really popular bc it’s what ppl around the world really like. whereas with some of the members, their solo music follows the thread of what korean musicians are like. joon with korean indie, yoongi with more of the niche areas of khh.
this is also reflected in some of their choice of artists on their recent mixtapes. so reading joon’s conflict as a choice between embracing his koreans roots and influences from korean music and the popular styles in the west was something i noticed too in their music
this however ofc does not mean i’m ignoring the impact hiphop from african americans have on bts and the individual members. their first and early exposure to music and rap was threw those artists. this is just me commenting on a tug of war i feel and that joon is commenting on
to conclude, as artists from overseas with strong ties to their home country being foreign to this new market and global demand. i can’t imagine the pressure and even confusion abt what to do musically.

but let this be clear, each album they’ve put out has been good.
i think what also helps is that they have a distinct message or tone that they want to communicate each album.
side note: i too am on a journey of listening to lee sora’s discography. her early music is really something!
