"Politicians are using religious discord and caste conflicts to drive a wedge in the society"

This point is view is a bit unsettling - suggesting that politicians are 'driving a wedge in society', not that 'society is fractured'. It puts the blame solely on the political class https://twitter.com/andymukherjee70/status/1332523105546162176
If we accept this framework, the solution we will pursue would be to change the political class. If however we instead conclude that the ill lies in society as a whole, then we can at least begin looking for ways to heal. The misdiagnosis ends up being a critical flaw therefore
"Those of us who thought that muscular leadership would revive India’s dream of mimicking Chinese-style double-digit expansion are not just disappointed"

This is disturbing to quite a degree. 'Muscular leadership' is a euphemism for 'genocidal dictator'.
Expressing disappointment in a dictator one cheered for is both a relief (finally!) and exasperating (Like, you thought your best hope was for a genocidal dictator, WTF?!!!)
"We wanted to trade some of our democratic chaos for a little bit more growth. We ended up with less of both"

Do we roll our eyes at this silliness? Do we weep for what 'democratic chaos' has meant for maby? Do we celebrate that the genocidal maniac lost at least one supporter?
