Why I personally consider Cristiano just a bit over Messi - a thread

Remember, this is my opinion 👍🏾
This 🐐 debate has always revolves around these two for the past couple years, so I thought that I'd give my 2 cents on this..
One thing people don't consider is the remontada Cristiano Ronaldo made over the years against his rival, that being Lionel Messi.

Before 2015/2016...it was unquestionable that Lionel had achieved status as the Greatest Player of all Time..but how on earth did CR7 change that🤔
Messi had what we could consider the greatest prime ever witnessed

I mean, come on..
73 goals in 1 season?
4 straight Ballon D'ors??
91 goals in a calendar year???

That level of football is more than enough to have you obtain "God of Football" status, and that is not a reach 😮
Despite these god-like stats, Cristiano was able to take himself up another level and challenge Messi's throne

4 straight Calendar Year with 60+ goals
7 straight Calendar Years with 50+ goals

Not even the 'God of Football', Lionel Messi was able to do that..
However, Cristiano kept his game up.

Chances Created in La Liga 09/10-12/13:

🇵🇹 Ronaldo - 265 in 135 games (1.96/game)
🇦🇷 Messi - 272 in 137 games (1.98/game)

He took up the challenge..and did a pretty damn good job.
Messi looked to be clear of his competitor..but things began to change.

It was in 2016 when Ronaldo performed quite the goddamn comeback.

That year, Ronaldo did what Messi couldn't.
While contributing to 66% of Portugal's goals in the tournament, he won his 1st Int. Trophy.
He came through with 2 clutch performances, saving us from potential elimination against Hungary in a 3-3 draw with a goal & an assist & a big time Semi-Final performance with a goal & an assist to help us get to the Final.
With winning both the Champions & League & the Euro 2016, Cristiano would win his 3rd Ballon D'or to draw him closer to Messi.

However..it did not end there.
He went on to win three, THREE straight Champions Leagues in a row, playing a crucial part in all 3 campaigns.
He also turned his international campaign around..scoring 50 goals in 51 apps...

Even after 30, He transformed his game and turned himself into a hell of a weapon - this would give Messi one hell of a challenger.
He even transformed the outcome of the Champions League debate..

From 27 to 35 in the CL..he scored:
100 goals in 98 APPEARANCES
Messi on the other hand was able to achieve 50 in 59 appearances..

Instead of declining, he made the Champions League HIS OWN.
Ronaldo’s % involvement in Real Madrid’s goals in the UCL:

17/18: 54% (18/33)
16/17: 51% (18/35)
15/16: 71% (20/28) 🤯‼️
14/15: 58% (14/24)
13/14: 59% (22/37)
12/13: 50% (13/26)
11/12: 50% (13/26)

I'm not capping when I say that Cristiano made the UCL his own.
Ronaldo's Champions League remontada has to be recognized.

This was a competition that Messi seemed to be ruling for some time, but the tides seemed to have changed.

A big part of that being the general decline of Barcelona, but this is still..insanity.
Now, the Ballon D'or debate may be brought up, and I'll willingfully say that Lionel Messi 100% deserved the 2019 Ballon D'or..
But so did Ronaldo in 2018.
To not even win UCL player of the season..he was damn well robbed.
Now onto modern day..

20/21 thus far:
Messi - 7 goals, 2 assists, 15 Apps
Ronaldo - 12 goals, 3 assists, 12 Apps

Currently, CR7 has the edge, but with the season not yet over, I believe this will be key to the 🐐 debate, at least in terms of longevity.
Another defining aspect in this debate is...Cristiano's impact on the younger generation of footballers.

Mbappe, Felix, De Ligt, Sancho, Haaland, Vinicius, Rodrygo..all looking up to Ronaldo, and for a good reason as well.

Cristiano's influence certainly has to be known.
As you look as this..please refrain from slandering Messi, remember that he is a 🐐 as well 🙂

You could ask me 5 years ago on who's better, I'd take Messi without question.
Now..things are different.

But one thing that will never ever change is their status as the GOATs 🇵🇹🇦🇷
I should also specify that the whole purpose of this thread is to highlight how insane the comeback Ronaldo made was. He was up against the literal God of Football and he very well may have dethroned him.

Might make a thread on Messi & Cr7's achievements later tho
