In the past month many of my healthcare colleagues have taken non-clinical jobs to step out of this care environment. Wondering if others are seeing the same.
Lots of overlapping reasons: the constant stress & anxiety & uncertainty, risk to them and their families, pay reductions, burnout, feeling abandoned by the public, kids out of school, etc. The earlier camaraderie from the spring isn’t there as much and morale seems lower.
The flip side of our bed / staff shortages are that as wait times and crowding goes up, working conditions go down for healthcare staff. When you can’t work well, it’s very hard to sustain that work. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/27/health/covid-hospitals-overload.html
This feels like reason #2,378 this winter will suck
