/ The narratives of the QAnon ideology provide important clues for understanding of the rhetoric and actions of QAnon adherents who are influenced by apocalypticism and millenialism. This especially important in the COVID context which acerbates existing vulnerabilities
/ QAnon adherents believe that there is an actual coming apocalypse (the storm, the kraken, etc.) For those who take literally Qdrops and consider the actions of Qteam, Trump and those around Trump as prophetic coded timetables or script that is revealing the future (the plan)
/ QAnon adherents that believe the apocalypse is at hand can act out this belief in social, cultural and political arenas as we have seen QAnon adherents successfully act out throughout 2020.
/ Many QAnon adherents believe that they must take on special duties in preparation of and in the realisation of the apocalypse. These duties are linked to the prophetic symbolism of the plan and the figures carrying it out.
/ the weight of the proohetic nature of QAnon (for those who believe they must take on these duties to succeed in bringing the apocalypse) will lead some to take actions they believe to be madated by a higher power.
/ apocalyptic movements inspire actions in it's adherents who feel like they have been endowed with a holy mandate and a textual timetable/roadmap.
/ When an ideology like QAnon intersects with "oppressive prejudices" it is easy to prophesy the demonization of the other, scapegoating and obviously conspiracism.
/ since QAnon adherents expect the realization of the plan or the arrival of the storm they are watchful for any signs of these phenomena. Those who think they are living in an apocalyptic event perceive those who disagree with them as agents of evil (satanic, pedos, terrorists)
/ those concerned with apocalypticism and millenialism are especially focused on false prophets, and subversive political and business leaders. (Again a common trope in QAnon)
/ these subversive forces (can also be individuals once celebrated by QAnon) seek to have the faithful QAnon adherents betray the movement by urging them to abondon their righteous cause.1
/ QAnon adherents are not instructed to passively await for their salvation, while being removed from mainstream society. QAnon promotes activism and action.
/ again we need to stop looking at a movement like QAnon and ask "How can people believe in this nonsense?" Or say "They are just crazy". Rather we need to ask "What are they doing with this belief?"
/ what they are doing is eroding trust in democratic processes, radicalizing a segment of the population and are a public health threat. This is not unique to QAnon and these ideological features have been well studied by many.
/ rather we need to realise QAnon has evolved into an ideological movement, with all that entails sociologically, politically, and culturally.
