Hard disagree for me.
The fact that Run-DMC’s “Christmas in Hollis” is in the soundtrack is enough evidence for me. To call Die Hard a Christmas movie. In comparison to the rough and stoic portrayal of action heroes at the time, John is vulnerable and in touch with his emotions. https://twitter.com/mjs_DC/status/1332494469925572609
Also, the relationship that is built between John and the Sergeant is basically a love story like Sleepless in Seattle and show two men connecting with each other on a deeply emotional level.
And the fact that he spends most of the movie barefoot also let you know just how vulnerable this character is and the lessons he has to learn about opening up and admit his fears to save his marriage.
So yeah, I disagree. However, I will say that like Fight Club and The Matrix, there are people who miss these levels of storytelling and meaning and are jerks about it and THAT is toxic.
