Fact check: anyone who has animals like chickens and ducks knows that they absolutely cannot exist in the wild as mother nature made them and in fact need elaborate security measures to protect them from coyotes, foxes, raccoons, hawks, and other predators. https://twitter.com/gulfsprite/status/1332480000797368320
I don't have ducks and let them just run wild, they would be dead if I did that. They have a yard fenced in with hardware cloth, dug into the ground, and extended into a ceiling. It has to be dug into the ground because foxes and coyotes will dig under a fence to eat your birds.
I have a LOCK with a key in it because even just latching them in is not enough protection - raccoons are smart and can learn to open latches. A key and lock can't be foiled by a raccoon. It's also 1 inch so they can't reach in and grab chunks of bird because raccoons can do that
It has a ceiling because hawks - like a red tailed hawk - can have a five foot wing span and are big enough to try to eat a duck. And I see hawks all the time. We have foxes and coyotes in my neighborhood too.
Letting the ducks wild would be letting them get eaten.
