What the fuck, I’ve got the time today.
For those folks following at home, a little background:
I place 1st and 2nd in state, nat’l, and int’l shoots. I’m a bowyer. I make my own arrows. I know how to shoot Olympic recurve, trad recurve, longbow, and compound. /1 https://twitter.com/willy40995772/status/1332458086750187522

The video I made debunking Lars Andersen’s false claims of “rediscovering” a lost art of archery has garnered more than 3.6 million views and is cited by at least one military history professor in his curriculum. /2
I’m a nationally certified Level 2 instructor ** which I have to pass a background check for. ** /3
Now, while I went through an instructor’s course to teach compound bow, I prefer to shoot trad recurve and longbow. Why?
BECAUSE COMPOUND BOWS ARE TOO FUCKING EASY.

See all this shit here? Compound bows have: center rests, whisker biscuits, pin sights, scopes, cam shafts, stabilizers. They’re shot with a freakin’ finger release where you push a button to make anything happen. /5
And best of all, the cables take the majority of the weight off. So instead of holding a full 60-75 pounds, Willy here is probably holding 15. AT MOST. /6
So while Willy - who, again, is barging into my thread to offer to “teach me” archery - is pulling back 15 pounds and sighting through a telescope, I’m pulling back the full 45 pound of my bow.
With no help sighting.

My bows (back wall. Two of which I made myself.)
Not a single training wheel to be found on them, lol. /8

Now, this isn’t to diss compound bows. Not at all! Compound bows are terrific! And they’re terrific because they’re ACCESSIBLE TO ANYONE.
Literally anybody can shoot well with them with little training. Old ladies. People with medical conditions. Kids under 10. /9

They’re ideal for folks who don’t have the patience or time to learn how to shoot instinctively. Or who don’t want to get callouses on their fingers. Or who have back problems. Many hunters use them because it’s easy to get crazy accurate and hold that little 15# a long time. /10
With longbow, which is what I was shooting today, I have to use my own back muscles and calloused hands to stabilize the shot. I have to pull all 45 pounds of that draw weight back. /11
I have to put in the work all by myself, instead of letting the cables and telescope and stabilizer do most of the work for me. Putting in that work leads to this:

/12
So if you’re an internet rando who sees a woman posting a shot where she’s shooting at something 1/4” wide without a sight+scope and having to focus while pulling back a full 45 pounds of weight.../13
...and you, with your compound bow with all its training wheels and accessories and encumberances, feel angry feelings bubbling up about that and experience the impulse to try to get into a dick-measuring contest, let me give you some advice: /14

Epilogue: I don’t want my dressing-down of this dude to come off as hating on compound bows. Those cams and cables and all the other bells and whistles do make for crazy cool accuracy. My takedown (pardon the pun) was aimed at the arrogance of the dude in my mentions.
