In the morning I planned to go to the supermarket, but when I opened my browser, I was bombarded with BLACK FRIDAY!!! We don't even have Thanksgiving here. Just the thought of having to stuff myself into a crowd of consumerist madness got me to postpone my trip to the store.

I get the same allergic reaction when I see photos of people storming into stores to get the Lidl sneakers, because Lidl got Instagram celebrities to advertise them, or some new gaming console. I just find it terribly sad how enthusiastic people get over stuff.
->
->
It gets me thinking: when was the last time these people showed this much enthusiasm and effort for their relationships with other humans or something else non-purchasable that actually creates long-term happiness instead of short delight, often with added guilt afterwards.
->
->
But then again: maybe they are so ecstatic over stuff because that's the biggest delight they have? Maybe they're people who don't have those good things that can't be bought. And in our atomized society it wouldn't surprise me if that was a major driver for consumerism.
->
->
And the irony can't be missed. Otherwise it's all "I gave up on eating cheese because of climate change", but show people a -50% tag and they'll come running for crap they wouldn't even think of buying if they hadn't seen the adverts.

So I like to stay clear from these sales. If there's something we really need and a sale is coming up, then I can wait for that sale, but I won't go into stores without needing something specific, just to see what new crap they have invented for us to buy.
