I guess everyone's fighting about Jordan Peterson again and I'm here to tell you I don't know much about Jordan Peterson.
But I know a thing or two about Ryan B.

2/ The first time I ever saw Ryan was through the front window of the bar where I used to work. "Ugh, I hope that hobo doesn't come in here" I told my coworker.
He did.
Later I found him passed out on a curb in the back parking lot

3/ Ryan is also a multiple felon. DUI and weapons (in his defense, his weapons felony was in California and wouldn't even be a misdemeanor here)
He also confessed to me at one point that he started getting into heavy opioid use.

4/ Anyway, I saw him this summer and he showed me his chip: two years sober. He has a steady job he enjoys. And he's active in local AA chapters, helping others get clean.
So what happened in between?
The short answer is Jordan Peterson

5/ He's talked to me a couple of times about Jordan Peterson and even has a sign in his apartment that says, "Treat yourself like someone you're responsible for helping" A lesson, he informed me, from Peterson's book
6/ I haven't followed whatever Jordan Peterson has to say on politics or sociology. I'm sure that if I did I would find plenty of it objectionable
But his teachings led my friend Ryan to see himself as someone worth caring for and someone who can affect others positively as well

7/ It's not a stretch to say Peterson saved Ryan's life. So even if he has some objectionable ideas, from where I stand, I'm calling him a net positive.
