Yes. Her miscarriage, my miscarriages, everyone else’s miscarriages. We will talk about our losses so nobody has to go through them alone. So healthcare can be improved. So we increase the chances of spotting problems and saving lives. We will never be silent about our babies. https://twitter.com/spikedonline/status/1332293361424805893
#pregnancyloss is taboo. It is silenced. People don’t know what to say when they hear it has happened. Nobody has to tell their story and nobody that does should be shamed or blamed for it. If we can’t talk about our losses we’ll add to the secrecy and increase trauma.
And silencing us over our losses with faux concern that we need to keep things private for fear of upsetting others or risking further intrusion into our lives or negative responses just shows how hopeless we still are abound loss and grieving.
Let’s note too that many many white women (including me) have written about their miscarriages and still births, including famous women. But nobody wrote columns suggesting they should keep quiet. The opposite in fact. They were praised for their bravery and lauded as role models
If you’re upset by knowing a professional contrarian malcontent is exploiting pregnancy loss to take a not-so-sly dig at a Black woman and/or you need advice on pregnancy loss there is lots of support here https://copingwithpregnancyloss.com/support You are never alone.
Consider dropping some donations to pregnancy and babyloss charities today. The link to them can be found in the tweet above

So many bots in the replies to that crappy S*ik*d piece. If you spot them, report. And make another donation to the babyloss charities for every bot and bigot you see.
You can always spot the bots and socks as they appear predictably under “controversial” tweets, eagerly supporting bigoted views. If you check their accounts this is all they do. Their interactions are only to amplify and spread hate. And they don’t or won’t respond if challenged
Notice that those who yell loudest about “free speech” and “culture wars” are the fastest to try and silence anyone who wants to talk about issues that are genuinely sidelined and examples of massive inequalities and harms. Again, donate to those charities
doing good work

Markle and Teigen have both recently used their platforms and influence to raise awareness of pregnancy and babyloss, normalising open conversations on grief. Racists have either tried to silence them or grab attention for themselves. Let’s keep the focus where it needs to be

Someone smarter than me already said this but those in the public eye are, to some degree, insulated from the crappy hot takes about them on social media. But your friend that has had a miscarriage or stillbirth? They will see what’s being said and that will add to their pain.
This thread
has resulted in my being blocked by S*iked/B*endan which is their choice and no hardship for me. But remember this next time O'N*ill or one of his cronies is wanging on about 'free speech'. It only applies if it's them punching you or other minoritised folk.
