It’s worth looking at this document that some prominent Scottish national and local government figures are claiming offers clear guidelines on what is transphobic and will allow civil discussion if we all sign up to it https://www.transactual.org.uk/transphobia
Under point a) you can’t even *ask* for single sex services of any kind, based on sex not gender, because that’s transphobic.
Under b) you can’t try to explain or persuade that there even is a problem, because suggesting that there could be a conflict of rights, or that such a thing even exists, is transphobic
Under c) you can’t say that your idea is popular, or widely held, or consistent with women’s interest, because that’s transphobic.
Under d) you can’t ask for a women’s toilet (again), but this time because it is violent (Honestly, “violent”) And transphobic.
Under e) you’re also racist. Just because.
Under f) you can’t attempt to define what the word woman means that is tacitly transphobic.
Under g) questioning anything on this list is transphobic. Saying you’re not transphobic is probably transphobic.
h) Questioning medical practice in any way is transphobic, describing or representing sex reassignment surgery is transphobic, expressing an opinion about the effectiveness of any therapy is transphobic.
Under I) Questioning whether children are well served by hormone treatment or whether 16 year olds can consent to permanent sterility is transphobic. Stop talking about it in any way, that is transphobic
How can *anyone* possibly discuss *anything* under this set of guidelines? There are elected politicians who want to make this draconian prevention of any discussion at all the standard in Scotland. I challenge any one of them to discuss>>
For example, whether I should be able to request female health worker for a pelvic exam - just to discuss it- without both of us breaking the guidelines before we were three minutes in. So>>
How on earth could we discuss major changes like GRA, Equalities, girls’ education and sports? We couldn’t. The only purpose of this is to stop us discussing it at all. And that, from politicians? That ought to terrify us.
