I have had a lot of thoughts that I have shared offline about CH, but today was proof positive about just how dangerous the space is. And yâall havenât even seen when ppl get swarmed by Nazi trolls/white supremacist agitators. The design of the app enables abuse/harassment.
The reason the convos spill over to Twitter is because there is no real medium to document what is happening within the app. No true accountability or logs. Twitter is the best means of tracking in real time when huge violations happen.
And many people donât even see the conversations that are happening on the « white side » of the app anymore because of how it is intentionally segregating. Believe me, you donât want to see some of the shit going down. Well the worst parts are in private rooms anyway.
And no matter what the founders say thereâs not a material investment in really reckoning with this as they scale. Ffs they are still claiming that they donât keep your audio even though the Ts&Cs CLEARLY state that they have the irrevocable license to store/use User Content.
If you donât believe me read it yourself. The implications of this are CRAZY. Even if they donât use this now the level of utility to this amount of audio when they need to generate revenue??? Come on.
I really want us to think more intentionally about how products are being created , marketed, and sold to us. This is not a organizing app, or an app for Black socializing. As they are trying to get networked and beat out the audio market (because there are others)...
Scaling with Black media and Black culture after actively siloing ppl out for 6+ months became appealing.
Anyway, I largely keep the app because I want to write about it eventually - I donât write about tech as often as I should - and also while Iâm there, I have made some really dope connections, I wonât pretend. But that doesnât outweigh the harm.
Itâs a harmful experience and a lot of people donât want to admit that they are startstruck by the idea of getting clout in a completely new arena *or* potentially getting out on by a celeb in one way or another. Dead that shit and look at the bigger picture. Fin.
Remember: clubhouse is gearing for Series B, still in beta, scaling rapidly and hasnât even moved over to Droid yet. This shit will only get worse, not better.
Imo: itâs doomed as an app and experience eventually - we just have to see if it will land as a Snapchat or a Vine.

That last part is purely speculative though. Almost everything else Iâve predicted about the app has come true though.
