What's this about Rogers Centre being demolished? Welp, time for me to share way too many archive photos of our beloved SkyDome. Here are some taken on opening day, June 3, 1989.
45,000 spectators attended the elaborate 90-minute opening program that snapped up every available spotlight on the northeastern seaboard and climaxed with a brilliant burst of fireworks and the release of 30,000 balloons.
Some attendees paid $122 for a field-level seat. After the roof was opened in the pouring rain, many scurried to the exits, jamming aisles.
Most gave the SkySnacks concessions' food a 10, saying the hot dogs, burgers and fries were pretty good. But the light beer sold at the dome got a big fat zero. The problem? It was too foamy, too watery and too expensive.
At one point a mustard machine exploded, showering bystanders.
"We're so sorry, so sorry, " crooned the mop-up team of McDonald's youngsters.

The souvenir stalls sold knit SkyDome pullovers for $75, T-shirts for $19, windbreakers for $45 and stuffed turtles (Domer, the SkyDome mascot) for $35.
It seems most had fun regardless and I would think most Torontonians have at least one fond memory from the last 30+ years.
I'll leave you with this last bit of trivia. Wallaceburg bookkeeper Kellie Watson has received two free tickets to every event that will ever be held there in her lifetime after winning the naming contest with her submission of "SkyDome." https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2014/06/02/25_years_later_skydome_contest_winner_still_enjoys_free_shows.html
