Mosul Movie
I watched the movie & was emotinally moved. I have been a movie fan since the 1990s. I dig through Hollywood history & look for blockbusters. I learn a lot from them as a photographer & story seeker. I addicted to human interest movies & always wondered:

Are these atrocities going to happen here again? I remembered the famous saying: history repeats itself in mysterious ways. I lived under 3 differnt regimes & found out its happening here as well until it was culminated with the occupation of #mosul by #ISIS in June 2014.

I lived every single day & was liberated in Jan 2017. We all witnessed everything. A couple of months ago, I heard about a movie being cast about the liberation battle. I got some insights from my friend @SangarKhaleel about it. He was supposed to be an expert for the cast

He could not join, visa issues. I also heard that there were SWAT members in the cast location to give their opinions & expertise of what they witnessed on the ground. The movie was preceeded by a huge propoganda. I remebered my 1st Q: Mosul is finally in Hollywood.

To be there means that our human interest stories are being carried globally like any other Nazi movie I have watched before. I was so excited & moved. Being on an international arena means millions will be caught by what we have seen in a dramatic way. The day came & the

Movie was out. I was, like any other Mosuli, so excited to watch it. But what did we see?
Seeing Iraqi actors in it was so exciting. Seeing Mohammed Al-Darraji as co-director gave a strength to it. Conveying the main theme story of SWAT team was done in a professional way.

Conveying ISIS atrocities against the escaping civilians was the most difficult part for me to watch. The focus on corruption inside the military tank was highlighted as well. The field executions gave a huge impact on what was happening before #ISIS, corruptions & bribes.

The Iraqi dialect was strongly present & mastered, except for some scenes that I noticed.
Hever, perfection is sth that does not exist in any field of life. The movie lacked the exact atmosphere of #mosul. If you remove the name Mosul & replace it with Raqqa, it may work.

The architecture of the setting is not close at all to the Mosuli one. No landmarks were placed or inserted in any scene, which is a huge weakness point for me. Even the ISIS graffitis were not there in many scenes. I saw blank alley walls instead.

What do the Mosulis I asked say about it?
Most of the friends said, it's nothing close to what we have gone through. It's very true & I must go with it for a simple reason, living thorough sth & going its life losing incidents is nothing like watching it on TV.

We would like to say that a minute in an airstrike can never be felt by anybody else on earth. It was 3 yrs, day in, day out. We are absorbed with details & a lot of crucial moments in which we may live longer, or leave this world without saying good bye, remebered, or known.

All in all, it's a good experience. Showing Iraqis in a heroic saving mode is not sth that common in movies. Presenting Mosul catastrophe to the world, even with the flaws mentioned above, is relatively a good thing. I hope to see more works of human interest stories later.
