My mom worked till 1AM on Thanksgiving. She had to be back this morning at 7AM. America’s skilled nursing shortage is an absolute crisis putting both workers and patients at risk, moreso during the pandemic.
If I were a CA politician, I’d introduce a plan to both decrease occupational licensing barriers AND increase seats at community colleges for professions with shortages (like nursing).
In our area there are currently waiting lists >1 year for community college programs in nursing. Prospective students either endure the wait or sign up with for-profit colleges that promise a degree/certification in ~18 months but at 7-10x the cost. It’s absolutely ludicrous.
