1/ A thread of some US military recruitment commercials because as a foreigner this stuff is fascinating to me. The level of propaganda that exists in these ads & the Hollywood production value of them is beyond anything I've ever seen.

So let's start with one of the worst ones:
2/ This one could EASILY be mistaken for a Call Of Duty trailer—which says a lot about that franchise if you think about it. It's only at the end that you realize it's actually a US Marine Corps commercial:
3/ This could be my favorite! It's basically like "hey girl, do you have a moral compass and also like to compete? Great! Come join our imperialist army and kill some brown people for us ;;)"

The homeless bit at the end is specially insidious given how many Marines are homeless:
4/ Another videogame/movie trailer looking one. Imagine being a kid and thinking serving the US army is ANYTHING like this!
5/ Of course US army using FPS games to recruit kids is not a new phenomenon. This rather famous ad is from 2007:
6/ Hell, the US army has its own game studio! This is separate from the stuff they put in games like Call Of Duty. Here's their website: https://www.americasarmy.com/
7/ This one is like "hey, do you hate the stereotypes that boomers have about your generation? Wanna prove them wrong? 😎"
8/ Did you know that the US army only collaborates with movies if they let the army have final say over the script? Pretty messed up, ain't it? And it happens in movies you wouldn't even think about:
9/ The US army used the 2016 sci-fi movie Independence Day: Resurgence to recruit kids! Here's an ad they made.

For more on this subject—and military recruitment through Hollywood in general—see this excellent video essay (which the last clip was from):
10/ I've got a lot more ads to share, but I think you've seen enough propaganda for one day! I'll just leave you with some facts about how recruiters lie to you and what serving in the US army is actually like:
