1/ I once heard from a Clinical Psychologist who said that when they told supervisor (who was anti diagnoses) about their mental health crisis, that they were criticised for ‘accepting’ a diagnosis and taking medication leading to shame and avoiding asking for help in the future.
2/ I dread to think what an employing organisations HR, legal team and occupational health would say about whether this was appropriate ‘supporting’ of the colleague they were supervising. Would it be considered discrimination? Employment Solicitors do please comment!
3/ Those in my profession need to understand that forcing anti diagnosis views on colleagues with mental health problems can be incredibly invalidating, unsupportive and stigmatising. I’ve only been made to feel ashamed of my own diagnosis by my own profession: nobody else. Ever.
