The exact point where I came in. https://twitter.com/mrbusby4o8/status/1332395784826810368
... and then a lot of "Kevin we're sorry if you feel..." even after he said (to his credit) stop apologizing, I wouldn't be in here if I wasn't comfortable with the dialogue
Kevin's way of explaining his jokes/addressing offense often annoys me because it's usually a deflection of "that's old" or "that wasn't the joke/it was misinterpreted, so I don't care."
I feel like if you work in words.. if your goal is to convey something specific to your audience and it's not landing the way you intended, that's worth examining. But I also appreciate that he's like ask away, fuck it.
Oh this is going left
*Me making note of the people trying to get @MichelleHux to pipe down*
What headline, Kevin?
It's time to close this room.
Kevin's explaining things in circles - like saying Black ppl bury our own, using Hannibal's Cosby stand up as an example, but also saying Cosby needed to be arrested and it needed to happen... so....
. @MouseJones mediating like a mug.
Ed knows good and well that wasn't directed to him. He's hot for absolutely no reason.

Kevin being called out for conflating negativity with critique. VALID QUESTION. Because he gives a deflection, then says "I wanna keep it positive," which puts you in a position to NEVER address critique.
A woman addressed what I mentioned earlier that Heart said Hannibal "took down" Cosby, instead of it being him using his platform to bring a level of awareness to Cosby's behavior.
And Kevin's response is "Well do you believe I think Cosby is guilty?"
Which misses the point of how *he* phrased it. He chose "take down."
Do I think she could have been more direct and it got a bit heated? Yes. Do I believe her point was still plain and ppl skipped over it? Also yes.

I actually liked Kevin's latest stand up and I got the daughter joke, but the dynamic that was IMMEDIATELY created when Kevin got in the room could be used in a sociology class.
Lol.. "I'm not looking at your avi, so I don't know who or what you are." That was weak sauce. And those kinda moments weakened his overall position, for me.

I just said to someone else, Kevin used it in the context of Black people "burying" our own, grouped w/ other examples that were negative. He literally uses words for a living. EYE think the implication was that Cosby's guilty, but a Black man shouldn't have been the catalyst. https://twitter.com/doncruella/status/1332410985878073345
... but of course you realize that sounds crazy to say PLAINLY in a room of a couple thousand ppl.
But one thing I did take away that I always knew about Kevin - he's not as concerned about the art as the business. Even just now, he would say "this is a great dialogue" but then switch immediately to "look at how many ppl are in the room. This is MARKETING, it's ADVERTISING"
And I admire the shit out of his work ethic. Mans works like he knows there's a time limit. But he's unconcerned with actually evolving the art bc what he deos works, which is his prerogative as a comedian. But to his own point, that comes with critique.
And yes, women on stage were 100% getting talked over and condescended to, and I'm so glad some of the men called it out, bc when women said it, then it was "Don't make this a gender thing."
I think there was an initial shock that anyone dared push back on Kevin at all.
Those were the apologies I walked in on. "Sorry if you feel like you're being interrogated." He voluntarily came in the room, yo.
These ppl are wherever they are on their phone. They weren't booked, they're not doing you a favor. You don't have ratings and advertisers.
I agree they shouldn't be bombarded when they're in a room hanging out, but he came into an existing room TALKING ABOUT HIS WORK, and said he was open for the dialogue
