I hate the idea of debate.
alternatives to debate:
reasoning
groundings
engagement
trading
the dozens
sharing
loving
shooting the shit
an mbongi
riffing
invitation
jam sessions
ciphers
study
play
the ring shout
holding up that which holds you up
care
dancing
feel free to add more.

the centrist-right wing continuum wants to conserve debate as a way of knowing because it doesn’t offer anything in the way of coming together and being together.
it’s inherently antagonistic and that’s what gets them off. we should leave them to it.
it happens a lot on here. debate gets framed as a kind of moral practice: “if your ideas are so important they should hold up in a debate.” but it’s not. debate isn’t the only way to spread ideas. it’s just an antagonistic way.
and the centrist-right wing continuum loves *that* about it. and will use that to demean younger folks.
the kids aren’t against knowing things. they are against debating because they know what that means. not because their ideas don’t “hold up.” come differently.

many leftists too. but they really right-wing in the things that matter, so I didn’t bother to name those types.
