I'll just reiterate that public officials have a responsibility to explain specifically the COVID restrictions they are enacting regarding religious communities, and preferably, to work with those communities directly rather than handing down orders from on high.
At the very least, work on limiting friction here as the greater the partnership, the greater the compliance. If Cuomo could host joint events with Cardinal Dolan on private schools, surely some kind of joint statement or event could be held to convey that everyone's on same page
A lot of states/cities have COVID re-opening commissions. If you're including big commercial developers and famous restaurateurs on that commission, you need to have religious representation on that commission as well.
Religious people/communities need to have responsibility, recognize we're in a public health crisis & understand that not everything is about them. Public officials need to understand faith communities rightfully expect specific attention, not indifference or a blase attitude.
Cuomo/de Blasio have been heavy on the stick and light on the carrot when it comes to faith communities and COVID. They could take notes from Biden who has made specific effort to highlight the powerful role religious communities are playing & can play to protect our communities.
