I think why many army tend to disagree with the notion that BTS immense success is due to previous kpop attempts in the US/internationally is that it implies that they are, fundamentally, the same as those groups who just happened to lock into a winning combination of factors
When the point to so many of us is that the actual key to their success is that they *aren't* like any other group, past or present
Obviously your mileage may vary on the veracity of that statement but it leads to ARMY and kpop stans having fights instead of arguments

They are arguing from a completely different definition so none of the arguments are able to connect from either side to create a reasonable debate
(for what my singular experience is worth - I studied Japan studies so I obviously came into contact with different kpop groups and I certainly liked some of their songs /admired their talent but until bts I've never felt like getting invested in any way, so take that as you will
