If you are looking to engage the services of a therapist during this Pandemic, here are some helpful strategies.

1. If they work in a clinic, it is going to be tough. Clinics are overloaded right now because that is the first place people go (usually because of health ins.).
2. You may be better off looking for someone who doesn’t take health insurance and is in private practice. Usually, they are more flexible with hours, days, and amount of clients they will see.
3. Be prepared to be unusually flexible with your schedule. Do NOT tell a therapist something like “I can only meet on Tuesdays from 4-6 on alternate weeks.” In non-pandemic times, that would be a losing strategy...it will not yield an appointment now.
4. We all do telehealth now. If you do not have good computer access, see if you can utilize the house of another trusted person for the appointments.
5. Be prepared to do weekly sessions unless you absolutely cannot afford it. If you are looking for an “as needed” appointment, a monthly, or a “whenever” appointment, you probably won’t get one. Our appointments are given FIRST to weekly clients who usually get the same time/day
6. And understand we are doing this because we have to, not to mess with your life. Please do not send nasty notes when we don’t immediately answer your text, email, phone message, or DM. I used to get 3-5 of these personal questions every day. Now I get 50.
