Amateur boxing does matter. It’s the notable exception to other sports in the UK. Unlike other sports, in boxing almost three quarters of affiliated clubs are located in the most deprived parts of England, with 25% in the most deprived 10% of neighbourhoods nationally.
As an intervention they make a huge difference in young people’s lives often at exactly the age when they need it. @anthonyfjoshua is a prime example of someone who used boxing to turn his life around.
The list could go on and on, and investing in communities now saves money in the long run, reducing problems before they even start. Amateur boxing clubs should have government support.
