things you shouldn't say to a person with OCD because y'all are getting real bold, a thread ✨anyone can and should retweet !!
"you must be so organized" OCD is a mental ILLNESS, not a personality trait etc. it's torturous and traumatizing.
"you're probably a clean freak" that's just insulting and making assumptions like that just proves that you don't know anything about the illness.
"are you like monica geller?" there are very little good OCD representation and monica geller isn't that. at all.
"i keep my stuff in order too or otherwise it bothers me, i'm so OCD too" you're not OCD, it's not an adjective or a synonym for tidiness/clean/organized.
"can't you just stop compulsing" compulsions can't just be stopped and saying this belittles the struggle we have with our compulsions.
"it's all in your head" trust me, OCD is way better at convincing us that the threats we think are real than you saying we're just imagining it.
"can you clean my house/room/workplace?" this is stigmatizing and definitely makes us feel like we're not being taken seriously. OCD is not fun or useful.
"thing x is triggering to you? you're so weird" we don't have to explain our triggers to you and our triggers might have NOTHING to do with us or what we have done or said or thought in the past.
++ bonus; common triggers you should tag on the tl: paraphilias, unsanitary stuff, gore, death, animal abuse, violence/assaults
feel free to add more if you suffer from OCD !!
