Lesson to all would be multi family owner operators: managing property is hard

Just happened to me: Sprinkler line connecting the Water main broke at one of our buildings night before thanksgiving. City gave us three days to remediate or shut off the water (yay) 1/x
It was the first time my dad was meeting my son.

DEP gave the notice to one of our tenants, who didn’t tell us until Thanksgiving (we lost a day) 2/x
It gets worse - the water main is on the other side of the street. Digging up the whole street + emergency job?

Probably $25000 maybe more maybe less. Since it’s a 2.5 inch pipe we have to use brass and not copper. 3/x
The lesson? The toughest part of property management is the unknown. The unpredictable. Plus the responsibility of someone else’s a home. It can grind the best of us down. At times I feel irrationally resentful 4/x
