Although praised for their bold decisions, they currently enjoy 85% approval in independent polls, the leaders have also faced sexism according to @liandersson
Like New Zealand, Taiwan and Germany, Finland was a female led country praised for its quick, decisive response to coronavirus. They enacted the Emergency Powers Act last used in WWII - which gave them control over salaries (although they didn’t take it).
Prime Minister Sanna Marin, who is now 35, was raised by her mother and her mother’s girlfriend in a small town called Pirkkala. Her teacher told us that she was just “an average student” although she asked for extra homework.

She was the first in her family to go to university.
PM Marin told us that she wants every person in Finland to have an equal chance at success. But does everyone feel like they do? Finland’s indigenous Sami ppl are not represented in govt.
Similarly @BellaForsgren is Finland’s only black female MP. A 2019 report from the Council of Europe said 63% of people of African descent experienced regular racist harassment in Finland - which is the highest rate in Europe.
Although Finland ranks high in the global gender index, the Green League coalition leader @MariaOhisalo says there is still work to be done…
