Things I learned while working for our postal service (a thread)
Disclaimer; all of this is based on my personal experience at this specific location I can't speak for everyone
1. if the outside of the package tells you something about the inside we will mention it (ex. oh nice a christmas tree) but unless it's sth like the fifth package filled with wine that's all we'll say
1.2. related to that,, if you order sex toys in a neutral package maybe even with a cover up thing like fashionaccessoires dot com we won't know because we don't spent enough time with a package to notice
All we care about is the address sticker
Which leads me to 2.
If you send something with a handwritten address do it as neatly as possible because handwritten is a nightmare
Like this has actually changed the way I'll write address stickers in the future
3. you don't have to be anxious about making a mistake while writing address name or anything !! We get enough things with mistakes that I can confidently tell you they'll probably know what you mean and it's fine !
4. "caution fragile" stickers don't mean the things won't be thrown they just mean we'll make jokes when someone does throw them and even more when you can tell the thing is broken already
Not everyone throws them ofc but it happens because we throw packages a LOT
5. a lot of people order wine ??? And straight up stones ?????
6. they hate you for ordering a lot and they discuss you with each other when you order enough to be recognisable
I personally just get excited when I get an address twice the same day but I don't have to go out and deliver them so-
7. we sort packages based on streets
Streets are grouped into sections and each section the cars do has a container while the sections the trucks do go straight in the trucks,, packages for the cars get moved from containers to the cars later when we're done with sorting
8. inside their own section the drivers have streets they like and some they just absolutely hate and will get grumpy over if you hand them a package for it
9. if a package rips we tape it back together but only if it's "bad enough" because we have a lot to do and can't afford to spend a lot of time taping every little thing
10. if you order something temperature sensitive (has to be stored in a cooler/can't get below a certain °c) you have to have luck with the weather because we have no way of doing anything about it
11. packages end up in the wrong sorting centres a LOT we send 2-3 containers of packages for somewhere else back per day,, so if your thing takes longer than usual with no explanation that might be the reason
