Thread. 1/ This @Sportschau piece lays out how UEFA are thinking about Euros next year. March 5th decision day. 4 different scenarios in each of 12 cities, from optimistic full house concept all the way to no fans at all. More below. https://twitter.com/sportschau/status/1332296544066875392
2/ Broadly speaking the 4 scenarios are:
- Full house (probably highly optimistic)
- 50-100% capacity
- 33% capacity
- No fans at all
It could well be a “Flickenteppich” (patchwork) with different scenarios in different cities. But the next bit is important.
3/ If a city on March 5th is not in a good position re Corona, no fans would be allowed even if things got better thereafter. Security of planning would be required. However the opposite would not be true. Some fans could be allowed March 5th but then not allowed if numbers go up
4/ March 5th will be decision day on so many fronts including the rubber stamping of all 12 venues. Sounds as though the pan-European idea will stay, rather than switching to 1 venue or country. But there will be a “Flickenteppich” (patchwork) situation in each venue.
5/ Are we imagining a full house anywhere on March 5th? If not, then no full house anywhere at Euros? Piece also discusses the scenario with reduced capacity of fans in a city with lower Covid numbers. This could allow fans who are residents of that city only to be able to attend
6/ At least from this, you’ll know the best case scenario in each venue city on March 5th (which unfortunately could be no fans in that venue) while having to be prepared for it to change from some fans to no fans come June. Hope that explains it all.
7/ Will try to answer if anyone has a specific question.
