Steam has some EXTREMELY cheap RPGs right now, so I'll recommend some B-side stuff that's worth a play:
Blackguards! A CRPG somewhat in the style of Final Fantasy Tactics (but with a fixed party). Janky, but has some of the best encounter design in video game history. For 90% off, it's a steal. https://store.steampowered.com/app/249650/Blackguards/
Lords of the Fallen, one of the first Dark Souls clones. Not as good as From Software's titles, but the next best thing. It's still very pretty, and the first 10-15 hours are excellent. Definitely worth it at 85% off. https://store.steampowered.com/app/265300/Lords_Of_The_Fallen/
Age of Decadence! Yeah, it's ugly, but also one of the best RPGs of the decade, with more role-playing options than all Bethesda games combined. Disclaimer: I did their cool trailer video, many many moons ago... https://store.steampowered.com/app/230070/The_Age_of_Decadence/
Way of the Samurai 4! Love this game, it's all about choosing your own path and allies in a fun parody of the las era of feudal Japan. Each playthrough is short, the fun part is replaying it multiple times and uncovering new routes and secrets. https://store.steampowered.com/app/312780/Way_of_the_Samurai_4/
Drakensang: The River of Time is like a BioWare game, but made by Germans. Perfectly scratches that Dragon Age: Origins vibe, IF you can deal with some jank. https://store.steampowered.com/app/33770/Drakensang_The_River_of_Time/
Expeditions: Viking offers a nice mix of tactical combat, survival elements and lots of role-playing options, in a open-world viking land. it's a bit more old-school, not really a choice for newcomers I think... https://store.steampowered.com/app/445190/Expeditions_Viking/
UnderRail is a cool spiritual sucessor to Fallout 1 & 2. ou should know if this is for you just by looking at the screenshots. https://store.steampowered.com/app/250520/UnderRail/
Pokémon meets Quake. Explore a magical world, capture cute fairies and then slay your foes in a first-person FPS arena. Makes no sense, but I love it and it's dirt cheap. https://store.steampowered.com/app/384570/Zanzarah_The_Hidden_Portal/
These are three classic Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books, but adapted to be played on PC, with animated graphics and nice quality of life features. Definitely recommended if you like CYOA games. https://store.steampowered.com/app/824760/Deathtrap_Dungeon_Trilogy/
The Council is arguably the best of all the recent games trying to combine RPG + Adventure Games, with a nice sense of mystery, interesting puzzles and a cool story. Drops the ball at the end, but still worth playing. https://store.steampowered.com/app/287630/The_Council/
This is for the most hardcore of the hardcore. Marauder is all about a grumpy man surviving in a Russia under invasion by the US. Has extremely unfair battles that will make you use every last mechanic of its tactical combat system. Cheaper than old potato https://store.steampowered.com/app/289600/Marauder/
Dipping into roguelikes, Devil Slayer Raksaki is like a Chinese Hades. A lot less polish, but a lot more characters, bosses, stats and enemies. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1016600/Devil_Slayer__Raksasi/
Finally, Star Traders: Frontiers is an amazing space roguelike, that does everything from political intrigue to spaceship battles, planetary exploration and trading. Mostly text-based, but a ton of fun: https://store.steampowered.com/app/335620/Star_Traders_Frontiers/
