I know we'd all like it to be #BuyNothingDay today, but I think it's important not to shame or put pressure on those who use today to save money. This time of year is stressful and costly at the best of times, not least after an incredibly testing and difficult year.
I recognise the commercialisation of today and that ultimately it's the big corporations that win, but if it helps people with little, feel like they can have a little more, I think in a way we all win.
Perhaps our focus should be on using today to save on presents people need, rather than what they want. Many of us are in need right now, including in need of saving pennies where we can.
And yes, some may need a tv - it is not for us to judge. They may need help to keep their little ones occupied whilst they take on a second job, for example. You don't know what people are going through so please don't make assumptions on how others live their lives.
Things are difficult enough as it is, let's take the pressure off a bit, yeah?
