I think what nauseates me the most about so much contemporary ID/gender politics is how self-obsessed it is. So much navel-gazing and whining, based on the usually false assumption that anyone much cares about the minutiae of your internal psycho-dramas and narcissism.
I don't mean this to sound callous, as if we shouldn't care about people's problems. But indulging people can actually make them more unhappy. True 'liberation' comes from commitment to something that transcends the self, to conquering one's narcissism and selfish passions
These people spend far too much time dwelling on things that don't really matter. Actually, the precise subjective way you feel about who you fancy or the colour of your skin or whatever isn't the most important thing about you, and obsessing about it won't make you content
One might say, 'Ah, but others care about these things and make people's lives more difficult because of them'. Sure, but making these things the alpha & omega of all politics won't help: people will come to see you as more, not less, identified by your skin colour or gender
In the case of white middle class people agonising about whether they are asexual or pansexual or 'genderfluid' or God knows what, my sympathy is zero. Nobody cares except you, and you only because you're so worried about being perceived as straight and boring.
ID politics often simply masks self-obsessed narcissism as 'progressive'. If the only interesting thing about you is the tedious, arbitrary matter of who you find attractive or what pigment of skin you happen to have, you have problems. Like all self-obsessed people, you're dull
The attempts by corporations to monetise ID politics amount to the monetising of collective vanity, narcissism and pride - that is, vice. This isn't unusual, it is the spiritual motor of capitalism, but it's not noble. It's no better than appealing to people's lust or greed
