The story of Since I Left You by The Avalanches

A thread on one of the best Electronic albums to exist of all time that's turning 20 this year.

In the begining there was The Avalanches back on 1997. They are just group of young Australian lads making music. Before naming themselves The Avalanches they had different names from Swinging Monkey Cocks to Quentin's Brittle Bones. Landed on The Avalanches from an American-

Surf Rock album, Ski Surfing With The Avalanches from 1963.

The members consists of Robbie Chater, Tony Di Blasi, Gordon McQuilten, Darren Seltmann, Dexter Fabay, and James Dela Cruz.

Before jumping into Since I Left You there are masters of sampling of intricate production from the creative minds of 3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul to the first Plunderphonics record, Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys to the iconic Endtroducing by DJ Shadow and to DJ Screw.

Jumping to Since I Left You, it's a long produced concept record. Started off as a rough idea for a creative playground for sampling and they did not expect this record to blow up. What makes it special? This is how.

Produced with Yamaha Promix 1 and Akai S2000 Sampler, The Avalanches are set to make a conceptual record of an international search for love around the world. The idea of a guy following a girl around the world and always being one port behind since they get their record globally

With a mass of ±3500 samples used, and a LOT of them are still unrecognised is a crazy step. The fact that they still able to connect these songs together and cherish a glimpse of different emotion is what makes this record astoundingly beautiful.

From one point you can go from the track Since I Left You which feels you with melancholy and happiness. A lot of layers yet it doesn't clashes and ruin the rhythm. It feels natural and a feeling of a step way towards the heaven.

Then there's also Frontier Psychiatrist which is a whole colorful collection of samples here and there. It's like a wild Psychedelic trip into a strange dismaland like no others. It's progression is perfection of Electronic music.

From each track to other track the album outs you to an enthralling journey of imagination. It's like layers of lasagna where each time you look into it deeper and dive into every level there's just a new flavours and traces of other genres from Hip Hop to Rock.

Up to their surprise they never intend to blow up but by the end of the year winning 4 ARIAS for Best New Artist Single, New Artist Album, Dance Record, and Producer of the Year and MTV EMA for best Music Video for Frontier Psychiatrist

Receptions from Critic are also heavily praised as they are ranked as #10 for the best Australian album of all time to #10 for Pitchforks best 200 Albums of 2000s to #216 at RYM's best record of all time.

Influence:
They had become the future blue print of Sample based music especially for Vaporwave and Future Funk for artists such as Saint Pepsi to Adelie Land and Chance De La Soul reaching new heights for Sample Based music.

In conclusion:
I believe Since I Left You is one of the most detailed and one of my favourite selections of Electronical masterpiece and I am satisfied with Wildflower and I'm excited for their next release. Thank you for existing and Happy 20th Birthday to Since I Left You.
