King of Morocco has gifted a mink coat to our Prime Minister Mrs.Indira Gandhi. The mink coat is very expensive. Prime Minister forgot to deposit the mink coat in the Tosha Khana. Under the law, all gifts and presents above Rs.5,000/- are to be deposited with the Tosha Khana./2
After price valuation by experts, the gifts are put up for sale. People pay for them and buy the gift. In this case, it is a mink coat. Dr.Lohia is a member of Lok Sabha. His disciple, one and only Raj Narain is in the Rajya Sabha. Raj Narain raises the matter in Rajya Sabha./3
Raj Narain is one of his type. He says, ‘how can the prime minister of India accept a gift from a foreign dignitary and not deposit in the Tosha Khana ?’ There is furore in the house. The house is adjourned for the third day. Raj Narain will not let the house move./4
His demand is simple. Prime Minister must come to the house and explain why was the mink coat not deposited in the Tosha Khana ? It is an offence and an outright offence. Even today the house is adjourned because of the mink coat./5
Dr.Lohia was always enamoured of Indira Gandhi. She is exceptionally beautiful and Dr.Lohia is exceptionally intelligent. He did his doctorate on ‘Salt and Satyagraha’ from Berlin in 1934. He came back to India and became Secretary in charge of foreign affairs in AICC./6
Dr.Lohia remembers two occasions with Indira Gandhi. During freedom struggle, AICC office was in Anand Bhawan. Dr.Lohia used to live Anand Bhawan itself. One night Indira came to give him coffee. Dr.Lohia did something audacious. He caressed her hair./7
The second time was at Teen Murty library. Indira Gandhi had suffered two tragedies in a sequence. Feroze died in 1960 and then JLN in 1964. Their house in Teenmurty was a Museum and Library. She was distraught. Dr.Lohia consoled her with his arm behind her shoulders./8
We are back to the Parliament House. Thanks to Raj Narain, Rajya Sabha is again adjourned. So the prime minister is leaving the house. She is walking through the corner passage of the Central Hall. There she finds Dr.Lohia holding his Darbar./9
Dr.Lohia leaves his cup on the desk and rises to greet her.
RML : Kaisi ho Indu ?
IG : Main theek hun. Pr Doc Sab, ek baat batayiye. Main kya pehanti hun, aur kya nahin pehanti, kya iski charcha sansad mein hogi ?
