Trump going after the Georgia voting machines is likely to suppress the Republican vote in Georgia for the runoffs, which could hand the election (and the Senate) to the Democrats.

Trump supporters in Georgia, who believe that Trump was robbed of the election partly because of the way Raffensperger conducted the election, and partly because of conspiracy theories about the machines, are angry and unlikely to vote.

Raffensperger has already blamed Trump for suppressing his own voters. Trump kept saying mail-in ballots were not secure. Republicans who voted mail-in in the primary didn't vote at all in November.

If they agree that the voting was fraudulent, they have to try to overturn the election. If they deny the voting was fraudulent, they called Dear Leader a liar.

The first time I volunteered to work in a presidential election was 1980.
So I've seen "the Democrats are in disarray" used as an evergreen headline.
So it made me sort of happy to write, "The GOP is in disarray."

Adding this: I quoted the Hill and Washington Post, but reporting supporting this take is widely available.
Elections are won on turnout. In a close election, anything that suppresses the vote on one side can throw the election to the other.

Ordinarily I'd say you can count on the GOP to get its act together (and pull together) before an election.
As @MaxBoot explained it his book, the GOP will overlook much for the sake of "unity on the right."
But pulling together now might require Trump to give in.

As a disclaimer, I've been watching for a GOP civil war for some time, and it hasn't materialized.
But I'm not seeing Trump saying anything except "I lost the election in Georgia due to widespread fraud," which would have to hurt Loeffler and Perdue.

Precisely. Trump has created a situation in which a portion of GOP voters believes what he says, and only what he says.
