There seems to be a large difference in the mentality of Burmese vs Philipino domestic helpers in SG.

Burmese look to work a few years to save enough money to buy a home and start a family.

Philipino ones generally already have a family and view it as a career to support them.
Not really sure where I'm going w this, but interesting fact that Singapore only allows domestic helpers from specific whitelisted countries. Vietnam, Thailand, and China for instance are not allowed. Also, once someone is a domestic helper, they can't qualify for another visa.
It can be a bit annoying bc let's say a Burmese helper prefers to work for a family for a long time. But she hasn't started her own family yet. Ideally they would just upgrade her visa somehow and make it possible for her to start/raise a family here.
The British servant system was in a way more humane in that servants could live normally and raise families on the premises. Problem now is people's homes have gotten smaller but they can still afford helpers via importing, so conditions for helpers have actually regressed.
