I’ve been behaviour lead for almost two years. At first I thought it was about teaching, learning, classrooms, systems and processes. And of course it is. But it is also more:

Unconditional positive regard for young people and the belief that we can, and do make a difference
Everyday, I look back at the child I was, domestic violence, sexual abuse, 5 of us living in one room in a refuge during the formative years of life. Being on all sides of the law. the feeling of hopeless and despair that demonstrates the inadequacy of the label ‘disadvantaged’.
And I wish

That my siblings and I had what I see now. To be told that we won’t give up. The belief that people can and do change. The way that they will be the same calm, compassionate professionals no matter what we did.
Booths. Systems. Silence. Sanctions. All miss the point.

I also don’t care what you think, nor whether you agree.

There is far more that unites than divides us.
