I really would like to understand this obsession with Christmas. Yes, it’s a family thing. Yes, it’s a tradition many value. But isn’t all of that trumped by the desire to keep family, friends and others safe? Wouldn’t that be the spirit of Christmas if ever there was one?
Just as we see a silver lining emerging in light of vaccine news, it makes even more sense to keep people as safe as possible now. That doesn’t have to mean isolation: small support bubbles are fine, I’m sure; and there’s a lot one can still do outside.
But traveling to completely different parts of the country; big bubble gatherings just to have a mince pie; long indoor meetings with many ... it’s clearly not the right thing to do. Plus also remember that for those still shielding / with other health conditions and also for ...
... those who live one their own, a couple of days of bigger gatherings at Christmas are likely to mean further extended periods of limited interactions given their circumstances. So please remember: just because the Government has decided it doesn’t want to be known as ...
... the Grinch who stole Christmas, we can all still make the right choices and ensure we don’t turn this into Covidmas and have a third wave in January / February. Those are the bleakest month of the year anyway; let’s not make it worse. Christmas will come again. /end
PS: And think about the NHS and our nurses and doctors too. They’ve done so much for us. It’s our turn now to help by being sensible and not spread this further. Clapping isn’t enough. /end PS
