⚠️TO ALL ARTISTS⚠️

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS TAKE PAYMENT UPFRONT!!! I've heard countless horror stories where the commissioner takes the wip/sketch and runs away without paying, and some even brag about it. Avoid suspicious or snappy individuals, learn to protect your work. (1/5)
Find commissioners who respect and trust you as well as your craft! Don't let anyone guilt you into doing work for free! Don't think "I get where they're coming from" they shouldn't commission you if they don't think you'll deliver. It's about mutual trust. (2/5)
If you do wips for free, slap a giant watermark over your wip so that other unassuming artists don't get told to color in stolen work by mistake. Reassure your commissioner you'll deliver and have a TOS with your estimate handy, both price, skill and the time it will take! (3/5)
If they ever bring up other artists who work for cheaper in order to make you lower your price- don't yield. Art is a luxury and no one needs art to survive, and even if they did, you are not a charity on demand. Stick to your rates and don't let them drag you. (4/5)
If you at any point feel unsure about the commissioner, or if they're making you uncomfortable/feels like they won't pay you the full amount and try to haggle unfairly low prices; don't work with them.

TLDR It may suck for now, but its how you build a reliable clientele. (5/5)
