After listening to last week’s @BBCTheArchers #TheArchers omnibus, we wanted to talk a bit about alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Potential spoilers ahead! 1/6
2/6 Stopping drinking suddenly when you are physically dependent on alcohol, like Alice is, can be very dangerous – even fatal. A GP or your local alcohol service should be consulted to help you cut down safely. 3/6 Alice tried to stop drinking cold turkey, which led her to experience symptoms like visual hallucinations, anxiety, sweating and shaking. These could all be signs of alcohol withdrawal and shouldn’t be ignored.
4/6 If you, or someone you love, is experiencing severe symptoms after stopping drinking, you should call 999 urgently. Despite Alice’s protests, Chris should have called her an ambulance.
5/6 So, if someone you love has asked you to help them stop drinking, please bear these symptoms in mind. If you’re concerned, call 111 for advice. 6/6 And finally, we want to acknowledge that supporting someone who drinks heavily can be tough. There is support available for you, too. Find out more: https://alcoholchange.org.uk/help-and-support/get-help-now/coronavirus-information-and-advice-hub/coronavirus-getting-support
