Here's a thread full of some of the best people I know in #1nt and #xl8.
It's an open secret that @adrechsel is the nicest, humblest and one of the most tech-savvy interpreters on the planet. @EUInterpreters are blessed to have him.
His partner in tech @Goldsmith_Josh is a gift to interpreting. He's charming, skilled, clear and fun to hang around.
I know I'm not the only interpreter to be inspired by @tulkur, the Obi Wan of interpreting. When she speaks, I make sure to listen.
I've said this before but the book by @language_news and @Deutsch_Profi saved my career and sanity. I had to stop myself fanboying when I got to meet them in person. Yes, they are as great in real life as they are online.
I met @ACGInterpret quite a few years ago at an @itiuk board meeting. Definitely a God thing. He's an absolute gem and incredibly smart and witty.
Talking about @itiuk, that organisation turns out some awesome chairs. @nickrosenthal deserves many medals and is a customer service genius.
. @iwandavies is the best person I have ever met at diplomacy and tact. I want to be as gentle and patient as he is when I grow up.
And then there's the creative genius of @sgmitiuop. She creates, she plans, she implements and she kicks butt.
What words are there for @PaulAppleyard? He's funny, artistic, gentle, kind, makes a mean cuppa, has great listening skills and puns brilliantly. He also introduced me to Gate8.
Imagine sitting your viva and @JeminaNapier is one of the examiners! Yes, you should be a bit scared as she is an incredible researcher, sparkling writer and has a sharp eye for a monster research project.
Imagine having to put up with my puns for 5-6 years. I don't think @grahamhturner got paid enough for that! He's an amazing supervisor, a storming researcher and the king of making you think more deeply.
I'm very glad I started my career on a diet of @InterpDiaries blog posts. They were like vitamins and protein for growing interpreters.
More to come.
Literary translator @RosSchwartz is as close as you can get to translation royalty. And yet you would never know it if you met her. She is always graceful and kind.
I don't think the planet has a harder working interpreter than @MahaElMetwally. If she isn't interpreting for the greats, she's sharing her tech knowledge or adding expertise at board meetings.
There's this crazy translator called @TimG_translator. He has a gift for making me think and for writing really clever articles for @ITIBulletin. An all-round great guy, who I owe a coffee to.
And then there is Radhika, who edits @ITIBulletin. One of the nicest editors on the planet and a spectacular writer in her own right. She is just amazing.
He wrote the foreword to book two and is a very astute futurist. Dr Henry Liu, aka @interpretaatioo is a man you just have to hear speak.
How could I have missed the king of the interpreter's mind, Dr @KilianGSeeber?! The man is a genius and has a talent for spotting wonderful PhD researchers. He also has a keen eye for creative ideas and seems entirely unflappable.
And then there is the 4th @troubleterps member. Whenever @SarahHickeyINT produces research, I know it will be absolutely spot on. @Nimdzi_Insights should be proud to have one of the world's best new interpreting researchers working for them.
I also have to say that Dr @CamilleCollardC is another person whose work I pay a lot of attention to. Read her stuff, you will never regret it.
One more before I go back to work again. Lloyd Bingham, @Capital_Trans is an absolute star who is always giving back to the profession and who makes a positive contribution wherever he goes.
There is no man braver than @BigDorkEnergy. He's a translator who came to an interpreter event. He's an absolutely hilarious speaker and he's very, very smart. The funnest translator I know.
If you want to know your worth, listen to @Julia_Poger. If we all followed her advice, the sector would be a better place within weeks.
And if you are looking for unsung rockstars of #1nt, look to @ABiesiedin. I watched him give a talk and he's got it. My goodness, has he got it. Conference organisers, book him for the main stage!
I have to say @cdmellinger is the best journal editor on the planet. And he makes quant stuff understandable. A brilliant guy.
If you're in #1nt and you've never heard of @rpstranslations, you have a lot of catching up to do. He doesn't mess about and that's why he's respected.
In Belfast, there is an exceedingly generous, thoughtful, and creative scholar called @PiotrBlum. His book is great and this lecture is definitely worth a watch.
I have a ton of respect for the hard work, generosity, perseverance and wisdom of @ProfessorOlsen. Go watch his videos on WIRED.
Some people talk about changing what the world thinks about #1nt, @ewandromag went out and did it. And he keeps on with it. He is a true gift to the profession.
So many translators and interpreters have benefitted from @sueleschen's legal and practical know-how. Our professions are in her debt.
Csaba Ban is the mastermind behind @BP20conf. He's calm, controlled, creative, clever, explores new ideas and knows how to make everyone feel at home. Access to the BPConf green room is a real privilege.
How did I miss @kirstyinterpret? She's a gifted teacher, a passionate interpreter, a great speaker and the more I see if her research, the more I really appreciate it.
There's one one @belangeintl. He opened his own #rsi hub and makes sure we are all pushed to keep up on where the profession is going. Great work!
Every time I get the chance to interact with @ChemXlator, I leave refreshed and built up. This lovely lady deserves much wider recognition.
I'm not even a translator but whenever I read work by @Jeromobot, I know I'm in the presence of a true master. If you're in #xl8, read whatever he writes.
I recently had the honour of working on a project with @mszampaulo. She is exceedingly talented, incredibly professional and always on top of everything.
I have a lot of respect for the determination, experience and giving heart of @cariobana.
