A thread of LOTR parallels with ZSJL. Some of this may pan out some might not. Allot of the different story arcs and characters also might not carry out as closely to each other but I believe there’s many similarities between them, going deeper than many may have first thought.
Superman and Gandalf: Arguably the most powerful characters on a human scale in their worlds. Both give their life to stop a giant fire breathing beast. Both are reborn in their most powerful and pure forms.
Batman and Aragorn: They both start out as simple protectors of the land however as the story progresses they give their life numerous times to for their quests. Both end up leading an alliance of all the armies of earth of defeat the ultimate evil.
Wonder Woman and Legolas: Very angelic and noble in personality with incredible near perfect skill in combat. Both are driven by hope for the world of men to do what is right.
Aquaman and Gimli: Both have a very battle hungry personality. Part of an underground race. Rejecting the idea of having friends at first but over time begin to learn the value of a family. Also both have kick ass beards.
The Flash and Samwise: Seemingly unfit for the circumstances of war. Constantly looking to protect the heart and soul of the group. By the end becoming perhaps the strongest of them all.
Cyborg and Frodo: Handed down a great burden from their parental figures. The heart and soul of their stories. Both are in many ways the most vulnerable to the enemy yet still manage to make their way to the end and save all life on earth.
Lex and Saruman: Both began serving earth in many ways however after learning of the dark lords return they submit themselves completely to him carrying out his dirty work.
The Joker and Gollum: Both are practically powerless in their worlds but still maniacal and manipulative in every way. They’re often saved by the main characters inability to finish him out of personal guilt.
Darkseid and Sauron: The ultimate evil power for both stories. The dark lord. Both once attempted to claim earth thousands of years prior only to be met with the combined forces of earths armies.
Steppenwolf and The Witch King: Careless and unfeeling in every way. Those who fall to their blade are turned into mindless goons within their armies. Both are very spikey.
Hippolyta and Elrond: Both fought in the war against the ultimate evil thousands of years prior. They’ve both witnessed the enemy’s true power first hand and risk their lives to keep the ultimate power out of the enemy’s hands.
Desaad and Wormtounge: Both are snotty little boot licking servants to the dark lord.
Martian Manhunter and Treebeard: Both are known for their distinct way of slow speaking and lack of desire to fight. When they do however they’re incredibly powerful. They’re both apart of an endangered race who’s weakness is fire. They also survive by staying in disguise.
This next part I’m not as certain on as we know so little about JL 2 right now but I do have a theory of how many of the arcs could connect.
John Stewart and Eomyer: I believe the lanterns in JL 2 would equate to Rohirim and the riders of Rohan. As it’s said in the trailer “no lanterns”. If this were the case John could play a role similar to Eomyer. A banished fighter under the rule of a corrupted or failed council.
Hal Jordon and King Theyoden: In the comics Hal is possessed by parallax in the Emerald Twilight arc after Supermans death. Similar to how Theyoden was possessed by Sarumans spirit wearing him down. I believe Hal’s arc could very much follow in the same vein.
Supergirl and Eowyn: Both are known as being eager to fight but are seen as too important to risk their lives. As Eowyn killed The Witch King I believe Supergirl would eventually find herself in a position in which she faces down Darkseid much like she has before in the comics.
Carrie Kelly and Merry/Pippin: This one I wasn’t as sure of but Carrie does share allot of similar qualities with the two. Short brown curly hair. Often very eager to fight. Clumsy. They also serve as the comedic relief to an extent.
Dick Grayson and Faramir: This one is also a bit of a stretch. Faramir would share a number of qualities with a bitter vengeful Robin returned from the grave. He believes himself to be wronged by his family line. Looking to prove himself a better hero at any cost.
