A few thoughts on the mayor's kid apparently playing in a tennis tournament.

I get why the Dan Whitneys of the world are put out by it - especially if they have an axe to grind with the mayor (or politicians of the other party).
On the surface, the optics of your kid playing sports after shutting down most youth sports aren't great.
Nobody like hypocrisy - real or perceived.
Nobody asked me, but I would have advised against it - especially with a group of cranks trying to gain support for a recall.

But here's the thing: playing tennis - even indoors - is obviously not the same as, say, a wrestling tournament or a YMCA basketball game.
We can debate the safety of either in a pandemic, but tennis is one of the safer sports in a COVID-19 world.

Would I let my kid play in a tennis tournament right now?
No, but we've tried hard to keep the kiddos (and us) safe.
We've said no to a lot of extracurriculars this year.
We decided to skip basketball before the latest DHMs came out.

But we've also done some things that other folks might find "risky".
Heck, we are fresh out of quarantine due to a possible exposure.
(We'll set aside the question of if people who have quarantined can criticize what others do).

For the sake of argument, let's say tennis is risky.
Here's my question: why are the cable men out there so upset with this risk, but not the behaviors of other elected officials who have done far less than the mayor?
I think we know the answer.

Also, I find it curious that everyone believes the kids of public figures are off-limits.... until we can use them to point out a perceived hypocrisy.
Kevin Warren's son agrees.

I wish the mayor would not give ammunition to the recall loons.
But I won't lose sleep over her kid playing tennis.

One more: there are some public figures who would benefit from a separate personal and professional accounts.
I can never determine where Dan Whitney ends and LTCG begins.
