A sad Liaquat Ali Khan sitting besides the gun carriage that carried Quaid-i-Azam to his gravesite. A problem arose after his death as to who would lead the funeral and whether he would be sunni or shia. Shia community contacted Liaquat who then put the question to Fatima Jinnah.
She brought Quaid's will where it was clearly stated that Maulana Shabbir Ahmad Usmani would lead the funeral. And this is what happened.
These were all non-sectarian people who were more concerned with broader problems facing the Muslims. Yet Quaid knew this prob would arise.
Another picture showing a grief-stricken Liaquat at Jinnah's grave. He was one of the pall-bearers, the first to throw the soil in the grave.
