Why ice cube is one of the most unique and underrated storytellers iv heard in Hip-Hop(a short thread)

let me start off by saying ice cube is one of the most prolific West Coast Gangsta rappers and that most people will know who he is even if its not for his music but for 1/2

his acting career. One thing I feel ice cube does not get enough credit for his storytelling. 2/2
1/2The main reason why i think this is the case is because his way of storytelling and imagery is very unique and unconventional. You see most well known and respected storytellers

in Hip-Hop like Nas , Lupe, Eminem etc usually tell stories vividly, in depth and in a dark more meaningful way. Whilst ice cubes approach is to tell stories in a more day by day approach and what he would be doing in his average day or what happens in it. 2/2

Take NWA'S hit song fuck tha police where Ice Cube starts off his verse telling you what he has to deal with day to day and how the police just think of as a thug/drug dealer. This isn't even his best showcase of a storyteller but it is a iconic song from a influential rap group

Moving on from NWA what i believe really showcases Cube as a great storyteller is his song Once Upon A Time In The Projects where he details his day and why you shouldn't mess with him. This song comes across as so clean and smooth that the storytelling is kinda hidden.

In this song he details what he is doing in this day and takes you through a day in the life of Ice cube. With Ice Cube's delivery, flows and a drum heavy beat it truly is a good song.

1/2 Moving on in to his solo career, Cube made another great storytelling song that is widely regarded in Hip-Hip as a classic song in the form of It Was a Good Day. this song literally details you what he is doing on this certain day starting from when he woke up.

This song details what he is doing and where he is doing this with details about activities like meeting up with a girl and meeting up to play basketball. It really is one of the best Ice Cube songs iv heard 2/2

Moving onto what I believe is Cube's best storytelling song and one of the most unique storytelling songs iv heard to date is A Gangsta's fairytale. Although this came before It Was A Good day I wanted to save it for last.

This song details him telling a story for the kids where he takes classic kids stories like Jack and Jill, There was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe, Little Bo peep and even Cinderella and tells a unique Gangsta rap story that details each of these stories 1/2

and adds his own unique twist on these stories. Just look at the first verse from it and tell me it isn't unique as hell

I just want end of this thread by saying Ice cube is truly a underrated storyteller and has a great 3 album run that doesn't get credit. He truly is a Hip-Hop legend and very influential in rap especially from when he was in NWA. 1/2
