People proposing 'economic reforms' in Iraq are the same people working for investment banks, international co-operations+global think-tanks - these are same people promoting privatisation of Iraq's national assets lock, stock and barrel and guess what, 95% reside outside Iraq!
Iraqi circus around this 'White Paper' have their heads in some loony cloud - NO real econ reforms are possible without political reform. But at their arsenal now is neoliberalism as governance - take away from the state as much as possible and bobs your uncle!
NO COUNTRY HAS DEVELOPED ITSELF BASED ON INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT!
Foreign investment is complementary and important, but it is only effective once the proper politics is in place, which in Iraq is no where to be seen
Iraq's economic challenges are essentially political

Now these think tanks and so called experts want to basically privatise not only govt companies, but whole sectors.
Plus who will regulate the whole process, who?! Corrupt political parties, self-regulation?
All very short term thinking.

Investment managers are now advisors for economic reform in Iraq !
All in bed with eachother - think tanks, investment companies, global coporations, government advisors and govt officials - this is the outcome of 17 years of state destruction. https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/event/evaluating-iraqs-new-white-paper-on-economic-reform/

It really is a neoliberal circus in Iraq - the same people who benefit from oil companies, masquerading as think-tanks, are the same people promoting privatisation - they will themselves benefit directly from any changes!
Perhaps a racket.... https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/menasource/iraqs-economic-white-paper-misses-a-key-issue-for-the-energy-sector/

MOST of these think-tanks (the Iraqi ones in particular) are connected to political parties, others are connected to politicians and Ministers - its one big corrupt, unethical family - patting eachothers' backs, and benefiting from eachother. No wonder things have become so ugly
An 'NGO' 'owned' by a political figure (who was recently a minister in Iraq) proposes the privatisation of Iraq's heritage sector! - he too lives in the UK!
Everything is up for sale and possibly open to privatisation.
They say where there is potential for $$ privatise it !
