It's a shame gay movies are harshly held up against a set of standards for simply existing. I understand the desire for represtation that feels 'right' or ones that analyse in a meaningful way, but you'd never write about how well a straight rom-com depicts heterosexuals at large
When the unique thing is that the characters aren't straight, that opens the movie up to criticism. I'm not saying it's wrong for people to criticise, I just think it's important to recognise these instant judgements often arise because of scarcity in general
It's interesting that gayness is an extra thing for a movie to get right (especially if it revolves around the subject of sexuality) but idk man it's complicated and a community has unfortunately been led to shoot its own content down for reasons you'd never apply to other films
