Honestly if Obama wanted to impress a bisexual and a conservative, he could have just let Lindsey Graham watch him shower or something. He didn’t have to murder Pakistani children and carry around a paperback of To The Lighthouse with him for two years
But it’s not really as much about impressing people as it is filling the hole in the heart of the American liberal, which entails ingratiating yourself to the victims of capitalism while at the same time enacting every blood ritual you can to prove your loyalty to it.
The worst of these liberal politicians think themselves unifiers, merging the aesthetics of equality with the mechanisms of inequality, as if they are some kind of savior synthesis sent here to square the contradictions in the American psyche.
And he’s so open with cataloging his failures, cynicism, and fakeness within his newest vanity project. He obviously thinks this self depreciation will appeal to his fans (it will) but he has no idea the level of clarity and rage it induces in those of us who believed him in 2008
